Another solid episode, although I couldn’t help but feel somewhat disappointed by this one. I suppose it has a lot to do with the fact that having read the manga thoroughly and knowing exactly what’ll happen has pretty much ruined any element of surprise for me, give or take a few scenes that I didn’t remember. However, I continue to watch because I’m still looking forward to blogging those pivotal scenes that kept me wanting to read more and more of the manga, and it also provides an opportunity to share my thoughts on certain aspects of the story that I couldn’t before. I also think it’s nice that non-manga readers are finally being treated to a quality vampire story that is worthy of watching.

Yuuki might like to think of Zero as just a “good friend,” but it’s obvious to those of us watching that he’s soooo much more than that. Yuuki didn’t even have to think twice about saving Zero’s life - it was an automatic response that proved that she’d do anything, absolutely anything, to keep him by her side…even if it meant betraying Kaname’s trust. I suppose that it makes sense, considering that she’s no longer virginal in that aspect. Funny how it’s virtually impossible to ignore the innuendoes in this show, alluding a vampire’s kiss to some other form of adult entertainment that many of us participate in from time to time. But I digress. The scene in which Yuuki embraces Zero from behind is absolutely beautiful, from the background music to the excellent seiyuus, and I felt that it demonstrated the special bond between the two of them just perfectly. It was interesting to note that all the while she was confessing her feelings to Zero and thinking that nobody was alert enough to notice them, Kaname was watching the both of them the entire time. He seems to be enjoying this game he’s playing with their lives, allowing them to think that they have control when in reality he’s merely letting them live…for now. I know that he has no intention of hurting Yuuki, but as for Zero… Well, I’ll save that for another post.
