Beck #19

* The BECK OST is finally out! I can’t wait to hear it. :) I also made a small clip of Ryuusuke playing the Blues with John Lee Davis in this episode here. Enjoy!

Ryuusuke and Beck have been abducted by Leon Sykes’ hit man to meet with Sykes’ uncle, John Lee Davis, and he’s surprisingly nice to Ryuusuke, allowing him to play Lucille one last time before handing it over to him. Ryuusuke discovers that Davis had once owned Lucille (since Sonny Boy was his master back in the day), but had later passed Lucille on over to Leon because he couldn’t find a blues musician good enough to keep her. After hearing Ryuusuke play, however, he’s convinced that he’s found the right person good enough for her. He’s also heard the news about his nephew being the suspect of Erica Blige’s mysterious murder and asks him if he would murder someone just for money. Leon tells him that no matter how straight you try to live your life, you’ll just end up dying a loser in the long run. I can agree with his feelings on life as far as dying a loser goes because no matter how hard you try to succeed, there’s always someone who’s going to be better and more deserving than you. It’s definitely not worth killing someone, though.

At school, Koyuki and Saku find out that Maho’s been busy modeling for a magazine in skimpy swimwear, and it’s interesting that Saku’s the only one suffering from a nosebleed (a sure sign of a closet pervert ). Ryuusuke’s back at home, but his head’s mysteriously covered up in bandages and later explains to Taira and Chiba about his whereabouts for the past few days. Although he’s glad to be alive, he feels bad about the fact that he wasn’t even worth killing, and it fills doubts in his mind about whether he could even make music that would move people’s hearts. Now that Lucille and Beck are gone from his life, he really has nothing left except for his music.

Koyuki sees an ad for the Grateful Sound and thinks it’s a great opportunity for them to get some extra exposure as an amateur band, but they’re informed by a strange lady that auditions are over and that they’ve already chosen a band, La Magistral, produced under Ran’s label. She thinks nothing of Koyuki and Saku until she puts her glasses on and recognizes them as band members from Mongolian Chop Squad. It turns out that she’s Saitou Wao, a recruiting agent from the Metal Glue Cooperation.

Maho invites Koyuki to watch Dying Breed’s tour movie with her, and he excitedly leaves to meet her now that she’s strutting her stuff in a major magazine, but it’s such a disappointment to see that she’s also invited Yoshito as well. However, Maho gives Koyuki subtle signs of affection such as leaning toward him and holding his hand while watching the film. She’s definitely giving him mixed signals, and it’s hard to figure out how she really feels about him. Is she for real, or is she just toying with him? In any case, I still think he’d be better off with Hiromi. She might not put out, but she seems like an honest, loyal, and kind-hearted person. Can’t say the same for Maho, though.

  • Gah, Maho is such a ho-bag! I have a bad feeling that Koyuki is going to forever be at her beck and call though, for the the sake of creating tension in the series.

  • Maho definitely gives a bad name to women. I just hope Koyuki isn’t stupid enough to fall for her petty games every time she gives him a little glimmer of hope. I still think he should just go for Hiromi, but that’ll probably never happen because it would be too boring watching them together.
