Ah! My Goddess #6 (Ah! Finding Something Unexpectingly Blessed?)
A lone traveler treks across the frozen plains of Japan to reach her destination.
She seems to have been traveling for a long time yet she seems to be enjoying her
journey. In another region of Japan Morisato Keiichi is very concerned about their
lack of resources. He has only a meager amount of money that has to last for three
days and there is nothing in the refrigerator besides deodorizer and some sort of
paste. Belldandy the optimist says that she can help and Keiichi thinks that since
she is a Goddess that she can make money, but the fact of the matter is that she
can make a spell for fortune. She begins to shine brightly as she casts the spell
and not a second after there is a knock at the door.
The traveler reaches the temple which belongs to a monk who is on a journey as well.
She is looking for someone by the name of Morisato Keiichi. Belldandy answers the
door to meet a perky and lively girl who is Keiichi’s sister Morisato Megumi. Megumi’s
facial expressions change as she meets the alluring yet divine Belldandy. Her face
goes from shock, to a look of “oh, that’s how it is!” It is almost as she envisions
her brother doing some intimate yet penetrating things to Belldandy, but she knows
that’s impossible for her brother so she puts it out of her mind. Keiichi sees his
little sister and he is not thrilled at all to see her to say the least. Dread takes
over Keiichi as his facial expressions note sadness, regret, and even antipathy.
Megumi informs Keiichi that she will be going to college and looking for a place to
rent. She marvels at how Keiichi got the house and also notes that it doesn’t suit
him to be living with such a beautiful girl. It seems that she has mastered the art
of playful yet snide comments. She is introduced to Belldandy over a cup of tea.
Belldandy who is still naive tells Megumi that she is Belldandy from the Goddess
Assistance Agency. Keiichi tries his best to make light of the comment and say that she
is working at a part-time job. Megumi goes in for the kill with the comment, “then,
going out with you, Kei chan, is also volunteering?” Belldandy goes to to say that
it has been agreed that she will stay with him forever. She laughs at the comment
thinking that Belldandy is just joking around.
Keiichi’s sister did not come empty handed and I guess the spell came in handy
because she brought alot of food from his hometown. Boxes of fish, vegetables,
can food and even a couple novelty items. It seems for the time being they are saved.
Megumi doesn’t seem to understand the real world, just like Keiichi. She also has
in her mind to find an apartment under unreasonable conditions with very little rent
money. Keiichi who now knows how hard it is to find a good place to live and brings
her back to reality as they search in vain. Keiichi brings them to his old dorm and
recalls the hell he went through with his Sempai’s who treated him like a male
Cinderella. He goes through all the rooms in the dorm and tells her this is what she
can expect to find for the amount of money she has to spend monthly. At the end of
his rant about his hell on earth, the two overheard the conversation. Sempai number
one is a muscle head who enjoys tormenting Keiichi and the other is a cro magnum
throwback who has spark plugs for earrings. They are not too enthusiastic about him
talking behind their backs and as also bring women into an all male dorm. Just like
the second episode the trio are thrown out into the street like so much waste.
Back at home Belldandy worries about whether or not Megumi will find her accommodations
and she gives her a hand by casting a spell. On the last day that she has to find a
location she finds one that meets all her unreasonable conditions with very low rent.
As the saying goes, “You get what you pay for.” There is a reason why the rent was so
affordable, the apartment is haunted. Immediately upon entering the apartment Belldandy
knows something is wrong. The apartment gets cold, the lights flicker on and off,
and there is an Amityville-esque episode to get them to leave. A deep voice in Japanese
says, “Dette Ike!” meaning get the !@#$ out in a very rude way. Belldandy is not swayed
at all but is looking for the source of the evil. Keiichi has had enough and he runs for
the door but it is too late.
The evil in the house traps both Belldandy and Keiichi in separate rooms and goes after
the small catch first Keiichi. He appears in front of Keiichi and lets him know that since
he wont leave that he needs to be punished by God. The evil apparition charges up to fry
Keiichi but Belldandy transports herself through a mirror and shields him at the very last
second. The Goddess notices that the phantom is a land spirit and asks him nicely to return
to his land but he replies that he cannot. As she has no choice the two begin the clash of
the titans and Belldandy pins him to the wall. Belldandy was in fear of him possessing
Keiichi and holds him tightly with a loving embrace. The land spirit tells them that someone
put a spike through the earth-power vein and he lost his powers. Belldandy borrows his powers
for a bit to remove the spike and his powers are restored. She requests that he look out for
Megumi and he agrees as he takes a shape of a normal mouse and returns to his role of
caretaker of the land. Megumi returns to the apartment after renting it, and didn’t get to see all
that took place. Megumi is happy that she found somewhere to live and is looking forward to
college. Kei-chan asks where she will be attending and it’s Nekomi Institute of Technology.
Keiichi’s jaw falls to the floor, it seems his little sister will be around them for some time.
Kiba’s thoughts:
Keiichi’s little sister will add alot more to the chemistry of this anime.
She loves her brother but is a bit envious of his relationship with Belldandy.
Keiichi must have gone through some hardships living with her, she crafts her
jabs and darts so well as to be funny but not too mean. It doesn’t matter because
Keiichi always has a bullseye on his back. Keiichi dissappointed me when he ran
away and left Belldandy when the land spirit was haunting the house. Belldandy
is the life raft of this ship. She plays such an important role, and she is so caring.
So many surprises await us in Ah! My Goddess.
I’ll do my best to narrate the details with care.

Another fine review.
In this one, I espessially enjoyed the part when Keiichi brough Belldandy and Megumi back to his old dorm. Keiichi’s Sempai are something else.
