Reading shoujo manga is like nourishing a sugar addiction

Goong is one of my favorite shoujo titles (yes, it’s manhwa) and a must-read in my opinion.

Oh, you know it’s true. Most shoujo titles don’t have much substance to it at all, yet you can’t get yourself to stray away from it because of that delicious high that you’re looking for every time you turn the page (or the click of the button depending on whichever you prefer.) Your objective for reading such material is rather simple: it’s an intoxicating sweet rush of emotions that you’re always yearning for every time you engage in a juicy new title. You are allowed to fantasize about other men without feeling guilty, and your senses are awakened with feelings of lust and desire for that hot male bishie that all the girls are lusting after.

Thoughts on blogging

I can recall a time in which my fervor for blogging compelled me to work on a post on a daily basis, and I wanted to crank out as many posts as possible within a month’s time. However, I’ve gotten to the point in my life where I no longer have the ambition to spend five plus hours of my time blogging. I think the turning point for me was seeing my cousins ten years younger than me having real goals and priorities that had absolutely everything to do with improving their lives, and here I am doing what I’m doing with this blog, and in comparison it has forced me question what my true priorities are. Sure, I could spend all of my time trying to improve this blog and get as many visitors as possible posting and commenting, but that no longer is my lifelong goal. Mind you, I greatly appreciate everyone who continually visits and comments on this blog, but I’ll gladly take a backseat and encourage everyone else to bask in the limelight. I’ve always felt like an outsider within this community anyway, and I know that I put myself in this position because of my own personal insecurities with my writing and my inability to feel comfortable connecting with others. Anyway, the point to this post is that I won’t be blogging as often anymore, but I’ll still be here to stay like an annoying cockroach who refuses to die. I’ll never get as many comments or hits than the real dedicated bloggers out there, but it doesn’t matter that much to me anymore. I still enjoy blogging when I actually take the time to post, so it’s not like I’ll die from a lack of the attention. Until then my friends, keep rocking out good posts. And a good day to you.

NANA #36

Just out of curiosity, does anyone even enjoy watching this show anymore? I cringe every time I see a new subbed episode only because I can’t help watching it even though I know what’s in store for me and how empty I’ll feel later on. I have to admit that when I first decided to blog this show, I didn’t even think about the fact that I would eventually have to delve into the painful and anxiety-ridden arcs of the story that the episodes are now unfolding. It’s true that it isn’t like anyone is forcing me to write these entries and I still do somewhat enjoy blogging this series, but it’s just so incredibly frustrating having to watch these characters wallow in their own sorrow that it makes the process of writing about it somewhat of an unpleasant chore. I almost feel like skipping the episodes altogether and just covering the last two in hopes that we’ll be rewarded with a good finale. After all, Mz. Ai Yazawa can’t be that cruel to her fans…

Monster #20

Every time I watch an episode of Monster, I am reminded of how amazing this show really is. It’s simply refreshing to watch because it doesn’t require any special effects or characters with insanely superhuman capabilities to remain interesting. All it requires is a great storyline with a cast of intelligent characters, and Monster delivers just that. This episode alone provides a perfect example of how a really great show should be. Even though it’s a bit slow, it still remains entertaining and interesting much in part to the fact that Kenzo can weasel his way through any situation due to his charm and resourcefulness.

Hundred Stories #02

This episode is pretty tragic in a sense that it reveals an ugly side of humanity that is seen way too often these days when people are driven by greed and selfishness. Such is the case with the gluttonous relatives of Kichibee-san in this story, and I like the fact that they’re drawn and depicted as the vile monsters that they truly are. Unfortunately, this story ends tragically in a sense that these selfish people end up getting exactly what they’ve always wanted without any repercussions (at least in this lifetime), but I highly believe in karma and I don’t think that people truly get away with anything.
