Red Garden #01

If I had to describe this show in one word, it would be that it’s simply amazing. This show is definitely on my must watch right now list, and I can’t get over the climactic ending of this first episode. What an impressive debut this show has turned out to be, and I can’t wait for more. If you’re a fan of Gantz, you won’t want to miss this show since it has similar elements to it.

Monster #19

Kenzo pays a visit to his former classmate from long ago, Dr. Rudy Gillen, in order to get a professional opinion about Johan’s erratic behavior, but this man doesn’t believe Kenzo and thinks he’s just a crazy lunatic who’s only trying to blame an imaginary figure for his heinous crimes. However, he gets the surprise of a lifetime when he discovers from interviewing a dangerous sexual predator that his latest victim had been at the request of a friend who just happens to be none other than Johan himself. Dr. Gillen then decides on paying a visit to the crime scene at Mrs. Kemp’s house, and it’s soooo creepy. The room is just as Jurgens had described in his testimony – numerous photos of an old woman standing next to a young boy, along with a seriously frightening doll with eyes that follow his every move as if she’s just waiting for the perfect moment to stab him to death. Now that he finally has the evidence that confirms Johan’s existence with the letters and photos, he decides not to cooperate with the police and helps Kenzo escape from the authorities. Just before departing, Dr. Gillen suggests that perhaps Johan has already found his ideal family, but who could that possibly be?

What I absolutely love about Kenzo is that he’s an authentically kind and valiant human being, and I can even believe that there may be hope for humanity after all. Despite the fact that he lives in this tragically miserable world, he tries to create a positive change for the future one step at a time. He is definitely someone worthy of admiration, and that is why I think I am so intrigued by him. This episode proves once again that he always sees the best in people instead of focusing on the negative (like so many of us do), and I know that I could definitely learn from his example. He could’ve just as easily disdained Rudy (Dr. Gillen) for cheating on the exams and regaining his coveted position, but instead he decided to remain quiet about the little incident. It turns out that he had also cheated on the exams as well, but Kenzo was better at hiding it. Great episode. :D

Jigoku Shoujo #07

Ayaka is an aspiring actress who is adopted by Kurenai Midori because of her potential talent for acting, but it’s pretty obvious from the very beginning that she isn’t nearly as talented or as gifted as her adopted mother had hoped for. Instead, she appears to be rather clumsy and untalented since can’t even get her role as a weeping willow right, and she even has to endure an embarassing lecture from her mom in front of the entire class. She pathetically summons Emna Ai in hopes of teaching her mother a lesson in attitude adjustment since she’s incapable of confronting her about it herself, but she thinks twice about her decision in revenge after getting a glimpse of spending eternity in Hell. It turns out that her biggest acting role has been in playing the obedient daughter of a famous actress, and in her mind she’s endured years of pretending to be interested in acting just so she could acquire her adopted mother’s fortune. Not only does she not care about this woman, but she doesn’t even have an ounce of decency in her. The truth about her devious plan is finally revealed when she viciously ruins Kurushima Kaoruko’s voice right before her big acting debut. However, things don’t turn out quite as well as she’d hoped when she discovers that her escape route - sending her mother down a one-way trip to Hell - had already been used by none other than Kaoruko against her. Ayaka desperately tries to worm herself out of this creepy situation by making excuses for her behavior, but it doesn’t matter anymore – her scummy self has already been exposed. In a cruel twist of fate, she ends up being escorted to Hell like all the other skanky characters from previous episodes. This show is supposed to be categorized as ‘horror’, but I’ve yet to see anything truly creepy. So far, it’s just been pretty bland…

Would you be willing to…

…end your life if you were given the opportunity to? I just watched NHK ni Youkoso! #13 a little bit ago, and it made me think of this very question.
