Beck #3

Ryuusuke takes Koyuki to a live rock concert and tells him to concentrate on the sound of the bass guitar, then they decide to meet up with Maho after leaving the concert. She’s chewing out a bunch of American tourists in “Engrish” when they finally arrive. [It's interesting to note that she can pronounce those four letter words pretty well...] Ryuusuke introduces her to Koyuki, then abruptly dumps him with his sister while he rushes to meet up with the bass player from the band they had just watched, hoping to recruit him for his new band before Eiji gets to him. Maho decides to hang out with her friends instead of spending time alone with Koyuki, and he’s bored to death sitting at the table with a bunch of girls, feeling like an idiot for being in a place where he’s clearly not wanted. He excuses himself after they decide to go clubbing, and nobody even notices him leaving the restaurant.

Maho surprises Koyuki at the train station by pretending to push him down the tracks, and she’s surprisingly nice as she explains to him that she’ll be staying at Ryuusuke’s place. He apologizes to her for making fun of her inability to read kanji, and she tells him that she had gotten fired from the lunchbox place because of language issues. Maho and Koyuki take their turns singing Koyuki’s favorite DyBre song, and it’s nice to see that Maho’s finally starting to take some interest in Koyuki, or at least seeing him in a slightly different light now that he’s listening to her brother’s music. Neither of them could really sing that well, but it’s just nice to see that they both have something in common now. Koyuki utilizes his vocal chords yet again during a baseball game when he screams at the players to stop fighting each other, and it’s a little surprising that he’s brave enough to say anything at all. Will he be recruited as Ryuusuke’s new lead singer? I’m looking forward to the next episode, as usual.

Rozen Maiden #1

Nori Sakurada is a clumsy girl who appears to have bad luck wherever she goes. She runs into a telephone pole on her way home from school, and little kids look away from her when she smiles at them. As soon as she steps inside her home, not a second later the doorbell rings and multiple packages arrive for her sibling, Jun-kun. Upstairs, Jun-kun’s on the computer browsing the web when he reads a letter stating, “The artificial spirit Holie will collect your letter through a dimensional portal.” He has an apparent interest in the paranormal, receiving packages filled with cursed dolls, etc. As long as it makes him laugh, he’ll mail-order it to his home. Nori thinks his obsession has gone too far and suggests that he take an interest in something less depressing such as lacrosse, but he kicks her out of his room and tells her to return the packages that are still sitting in the living room. It seems like his obsession has taken over his life, as he no longer eats with his sister and has decided to quit school altogether.

After yelling at Nori to hurry and return his packages before the deadline (he’s bossy and grouchy), he accidently trips over a chest and opens it up to find a doll lying inside (the same creepy doll seen earlier in the show). He’s surprised at how big and realistic the doll looks, and uses the key to wind her up. The doll creeps him out, so he tosses her away from him and watches helplessly as she awakens. She opens her eyes and walks toward him looking pissed off, slapping him across his cheek and telling him that he had no permission to touch her. Her name is Shinku, and she is the fifth doll of Rozen Maiden. She’s apparently a picky doll as well, complaining about his filthy living conditions and stating that it’s not appropriate for her to live there, but she has no choice but to stay there since she’s been wound up. She knew that he must have answered Holie’s question (he circled the question “Will you wind?” in the letter he received earlier, knowing nothing of the consequences of answering that question). He thinks the doll is just another marketing tool for his spiritual toys, and he tries to touch her but she avoids getting grabbed again and complains about his disgusting impoliteness. He thinks he’s been cursed because of all the times he’s made fun of those cursed goods.

Black feathers suddenly appear in his room, and she says that “it” has appeared. A creepy clown breaks into his room from the window and stands on his bed. Shinku tells him that it’s unfortunate that he’s going to die there, but if he doesn’t want to, he has to swear… The clown throws a single King card at him, and it ends up tearing his sleeve. He begins to panic and tries to open his door, but it’s locked and Shinku tells him not to act erradically just because his sleeve is torn. More cards are thrown at him as he drastically tries to open his door, and Shinku asks him one more time if he will swear or won’t swear. After watching the clown taking out a set of knives, Jun screams that he’ll swear. She tells him to kiss the rose on her hand, and he does rather hesitantly. The rose lights up, emitting a red glow. She tells him that he’s a good boy, and after a few seconds of a spectacular light show, the ring appears on his hand. The ring is hot, and Shinku tells him to endure it, for he has become her Medium. She awakens his other dolls with the same red energy (she blows into her hand and rose petals appear), and together they stop the clown from killing Jun. She tells him that he was saved thanks to his dolls, and she also reveals to him that dolls choose their own masters, and they work very hard because they want to protect him. He suddenly feels dizzy, and she says that his inability to use a greater amount of energy makes him a disgusting servant. She also tells him that he swore earlier to protect him (kissing the rose on her ring), and from now on his job is to continuously supply her with his energy through the ring. He tries to take the ring off his hand, but she tells him that he’ll tear his own flesh if he tries to force it off.

Jun orders Nori to prepare black tea for him, then he quickly takes the tray from her hands and slams the door in her face (he’s a real jerk to her). He warns Shinku that Nori’s tea isn’t any good, and after taking a sip she agrees that it doesn’t taste like black tea, but it does have a very kind flavor. She tells him that Nori cares for him very much. Nori is still standing outside his door and asks him if it’s any good, and he lamely tells her that it’s less bad. She’s happy with his lame “compliment” (I would’ve already poured the hot tea in his face), and Shinku tells him again that he’s a good boy. Nori opens the door and sees her embarassed brother drinking tea with a doll, and she thinks it’s the cutest thing in the world. He kicks her out of his room, and the episode ends with Shinku looking out the window to observe the moon.

This was an enjoyable episode, and I’m looking forward to watching more. I have a similar looking doll in my room (inherited her from a relative), and I always wondered what would happen if she ever began to move on her own. Thankfully, that won’t happen anytime soon. :) That would be an awfully mean Scare Tactic to pull on someone. Hmmm… (only kidding, of course.)

Beck #2

While waiting outside Ryuusuke’s house, Izumi demonstrates to Koyuki how to greet a dog properly, but he’s not used to dogs and ends up getting bitten again because of his aggressiveness. Ryuusuke sees them waiting outside and tells Beck in English to go and play by himself. He invites them inside, and Koyuki takes an interest in his collection of manga while Izumi admires an Indie album of his. Koyuki once again becomes invisible as Izumi converses to Ryuusuki about his music. He ends up sitting outside near the fishing pond, staring at the two of them still engaged in a conversation while he’s left to talk to himself, obviously disappointed that he lacks the knowledge in the subject. Poor guy, he’s been dissed yet again.

Ryuusuke calls Koyuki up at home the next evening and invites him and Izumi to attend a live performance on Sunday. He also tells him to stop calling him “Ryuusuke-kun” because it gives him the creeps that a guy is addressing him affectionately. Koyuki cracks up, but Ryuusuke’s dead serious about the issue and admits that he’s not good with those “age-old” customs.

While waiting for the the pedestrian crossing signal to change, Koyuki notices Izumi waiting for him on the second floor of a fast-food chain, and like a typical teenager in heat, he notices not her face but the space in between her legs. He finally makes it up to where she’s been waiting and apologizes for being late, and it’s hilarious watching him blush when she asks him why he just stood there for a long time. Following Ryuusuke’s hand-drawn map, they take the train to the location where Ryuusuke’s performing. Koyuki decides to ask Izumi why she doesn’t go out with Ryuusuke, and it’s interesting to note that she doesn’t answer his question but instead tells him to listen to Dying Breed’s album. I have an inkling that she’s secretly already going out with him, hence the need to act like friends in front of Koyuki as not to hurt him.

With the heightened pressure of having to perform in front a representative coming from a major label, they end up making mistakes from the very beginning. By the time they get their equipment back up and running, their dreams of getting signed to a label are crushed as they watch the representative leaving the building, obviously disappointed by their lackluster opening. Everyone in the crowd notices the guy leaving as well, and they’re all just as disappointed. The three of them (Koyuki, Izumi, and Kayo-chan) end up going to a bar later that night. Kayo-chan engages in a drunken fist-fight with a fellow fan, while Koyuki has an unpleasnt run-in with Ryuusuke’s sister and watches from a distance as Izumi continues her conversation with Ryuusuke. Poor Koyuki, he’s the nice guy that always finishes last.

The next day, he notices Ryuusuke on the street and begins to walk toward him until he realizes that Eiji (his bandmate) is there as well. He’s telling Ryuusuke that he regrets his decision to join forces with him, and he also complains that a company president’s son would never understand how much he suffers. Koyuki’s hiding behind a pole, absorbing the conversation he’s just overheard. Ryuusuke, a company president’s son? Hmmmm, makes you wonder why he’s living in such a destitute area with his grandmother. Looking forward to the next episode once again. :)

Elfen Lied #11

Kouta explains to Nana that something bad had happened to him before his sister died, but he couldn’t remember what it was that had caused him to feel such remorse. Nyuu, having a flashback of Kouta crying, appears to remember something about Kanae’s death and urges him not to cry. Confused by her sudden outburst, he insists that he isn’t crying, but Nyuu can’t stop thinking about Kouta as a young boy and runs outside with scissors in hand. She uses the scissors to cut her hair and apologizes to Kouta, assuring him that Kanae forgives him for what he’s done. He embraces her and tells her that he’s had the feeling he’s known her for a long time, and also tells her that he likes her. Yuka’s been standing by the front door listening to their conversation, and drops her grocery bags at the sound of Kouta’s admission to liking Nyuu and runs from the house in a sad fit of jealousy.

Nana, meanwhile, is in the midst of overfeeding Wanta when she feels a presence of an evil diclonius coming to kill her, so she abruptly leaves and rushes toward her new formidable opponent and away from putting everyone else in danger. Kouta, being the man of the house, leaves to find Nana, with Nyuu excitedly chasing after him. Nana reaches the long stretch of road that’s been blocked off for Number 35, and she confronts the young diclonius only to find that she is no match against her. Number 35 has her fun playing with Nana as she rips apart her arms and legs as well as her clothes, leaving Nana easily defeated and humiliated.

Tsukuyomi Moon Phase - 01

Kohei is a photographer for an occult magazine whose job is to capture images of spirits, and his current assignment is at an old Castle that’s said to be haunted by the spirits that had supposedly died from the bubonic plague during the Medieval Ages. He sees a girl sitting on the rooftop and captures several images of her…or so he thinks. He’s shocked to find that she isn’t in any of his photos, but he’s seen her with his own eyes and knows that she can’t be a ghost because of his inability to see or sense spirits of any kind. His partners Seji (a spirit medium) and Anzai (Seji’s idol and follower) are open to the idea that someone (or something) may actually be living in that Castle, so they volunteer Kouhei to do the dirty work for their “big scoop.”

Kouhei begins by breaking in the Castle (since it isn’t open to the public), and easily gets past the barrier that usually prevents most people from entering (since to spirits, he’s an absolutely invincible, “thick-headed man”). Once inside, he notices furniture dating back to the medieval period and purposely continues walking toward the northeast side of the castle toward a device controls the barrier. Spirits hover and surround Kouhei as he makes his way through the castle, but he’s completely obvious to them. He notices a painting of a girl laying on her bed and whips his camera out to take a picture of it but notices that he’s run out of film. As he reaches down for another roll of film, he hears a female voice asking who he is. He looks up and sees the girl in the photo sitting close to him. She flies toward him and notices that he’s a normal human and is even more surprised that he made it in. She introduces herself as Hazuki and calls him Kouhei-oniisama. He’s surprised that she speaks Japanese, and she tells him that she used to live in Japan, but she doesn’t tell him why she moved away. He tells her that he had to see her because he had seen her sitting on the roof, and she had looked so beautiful that he was hoping she would model for him. She’s very happy that oniisama came all the way to meet her, and she reveals a fang tooth as she smiles at him. He asks her if it’s okay to take a picture of her, and she agrees but requests that she give him a present first for coming all the way to meet her. He gladly accepts her present, and she glides toward him, her face edging closer to his, but he stops her midway. Embarrassed, she steps away and wonders why he stops her from doing her thing, but then she tells herself to go for it. She pretends to be hurt and accuses him of hating her, but he tells her that he could never hate her, and he accepts her present. She touches his face and is about to “kiss” his neck when they’re abruptly pulled apart by vines. Vigo suddenly appears and tells Hazuki that he’s been instructed by Master to protect her.

Seji hears the loud commotion inside the castle and attempts to break the barrier with his spiritual powers. It’s hilarious watching him perform his Naruto-esque jutsu (breaking the barrier no jutsu?) and manages to enter the castle. He also tells Anzai to run away because he’ll be busy trying to save Kouhei and won’t be able to protect her as well. Meanwhile, Hazuki begs the vines to release her, and after being released she runs toward Kouhei who’s immobile because he’s still tied down by the vines. She takes advantage of the situation and decides to give him her present - she bites his neck and her eyes turn from purple to bright red. She also tells him that oniisama is now hers.

I really hope Kouhei turns into a vampire. That would be extraordinarily cool. I’m infatuated with vampires myself (wanted to be one throughout high school), so this show is definitely a must-see for me. :)
