Ah! My Goddess #6 (Ah! Finding Something Unexpectingly Blessed?)

Ah! My Goddess #6 (Ah! Finding Something Unexpectingly Blessed?)

A lone traveler treks across the frozen plains of Japan to reach her destination.
She seems to have been traveling for a long time yet she seems to be enjoying her
journey. In another region of Japan Morisato Keiichi is very concerned about their
lack of resources. He has only a meager amount of money that has to last for three
days and there is nothing in the refrigerator besides deodorizer and some sort of
paste. Belldandy the optimist says that she can help and Keiichi thinks that since
she is a Goddess that she can make money, but the fact of the matter is that she
can make a spell for fortune. She begins to shine brightly as she casts the spell
and not a second after there is a knock at the door.

The traveler reaches the temple which belongs to a monk who is on a journey as well.
She is looking for someone by the name of Morisato Keiichi. Belldandy answers the
door to meet a perky and lively girl who is Keiichi’s sister Morisato Megumi. Megumi’s
facial expressions change as she meets the alluring yet divine Belldandy. Her face
goes from shock, to a look of “oh, that’s how it is!” It is almost as she envisions
her brother doing some intimate yet penetrating things to Belldandy, but she knows
that’s impossible for her brother so she puts it out of her mind. Keiichi sees his
little sister and he is not thrilled at all to see her to say the least. Dread takes
over Keiichi as his facial expressions note sadness, regret, and even antipathy.

Megumi informs Keiichi that she will be going to college and looking for a place to
rent. She marvels at how Keiichi got the house and also notes that it doesn’t suit
him to be living with such a beautiful girl. It seems that she has mastered the art
of playful yet snide comments. She is introduced to Belldandy over a cup of tea.
Belldandy who is still naive tells Megumi that she is Belldandy from the Goddess
Assistance Agency. Keiichi tries his best to make light of the comment and say that she
is working at a part-time job. Megumi goes in for the kill with the comment, “then,
going out with you, Kei chan, is also volunteering?” Belldandy goes to to say that
it has been agreed that she will stay with him forever. She laughs at the comment
thinking that Belldandy is just joking around.

Keiichi’s sister did not come empty handed and I guess the spell came in handy
because she brought alot of food from his hometown. Boxes of fish, vegetables,
can food and even a couple novelty items. It seems for the time being they are saved.
Megumi doesn’t seem to understand the real world, just like Keiichi. She also has
in her mind to find an apartment under unreasonable conditions with very little rent
money. Keiichi who now knows how hard it is to find a good place to live and brings
her back to reality as they search in vain. Keiichi brings them to his old dorm and
recalls the hell he went through with his Sempai’s who treated him like a male
Cinderella. He goes through all the rooms in the dorm and tells her this is what she
can expect to find for the amount of money she has to spend monthly. At the end of
his rant about his hell on earth, the two overheard the conversation. Sempai number
one is a muscle head who enjoys tormenting Keiichi and the other is a cro magnum
throwback who has spark plugs for earrings. They are not too enthusiastic about him
talking behind their backs and as also bring women into an all male dorm. Just like
the second episode the trio are thrown out into the street like so much waste. ;)

Back at home Belldandy worries about whether or not Megumi will find her accommodations
and she gives her a hand by casting a spell. On the last day that she has to find a
location she finds one that meets all her unreasonable conditions with very low rent.
As the saying goes, “You get what you pay for.” There is a reason why the rent was so
affordable, the apartment is haunted. Immediately upon entering the apartment Belldandy
knows something is wrong. The apartment gets cold, the lights flicker on and off,
and there is an Amityville-esque episode to get them to leave. A deep voice in Japanese
says, “Dette Ike!” meaning get the !@#$ out in a very rude way. Belldandy is not swayed
at all but is looking for the source of the evil. Keiichi has had enough and he runs for
the door but it is too late.

The evil in the house traps both Belldandy and Keiichi in separate rooms and goes after
the small catch first Keiichi. He appears in front of Keiichi and lets him know that since
he wont leave that he needs to be punished by God. The evil apparition charges up to fry
Keiichi but Belldandy transports herself through a mirror and shields him at the very last
second. The Goddess notices that the phantom is a land spirit and asks him nicely to return
to his land but he replies that he cannot. As she has no choice the two begin the clash of
the titans and Belldandy pins him to the wall. Belldandy was in fear of him possessing
Keiichi and holds him tightly with a loving embrace. The land spirit tells them that someone
put a spike through the earth-power vein and he lost his powers. Belldandy borrows his powers
for a bit to remove the spike and his powers are restored. She requests that he look out for
Megumi and he agrees as he takes a shape of a normal mouse and returns to his role of
caretaker of the land. Megumi returns to the apartment after renting it, and didn’t get to see all
that took place. Megumi is happy that she found somewhere to live and is looking forward to
college. Kei-chan asks where she will be attending and it’s Nekomi Institute of Technology.
Keiichi’s jaw falls to the floor, it seems his little sister will be around them for some time.

Kiba’s thoughts:

Keiichi’s little sister will add alot more to the chemistry of this anime.
She loves her brother but is a bit envious of his relationship with Belldandy.
Keiichi must have gone through some hardships living with her, she crafts her
jabs and darts so well as to be funny but not too mean. It doesn’t matter because
Keiichi always has a bullseye on his back. Keiichi dissappointed me when he ran
away and left Belldandy when the land spirit was haunting the house. Belldandy
is the life raft of this ship. She plays such an important role, and she is so caring.
So many surprises await us in Ah! My Goddess.
I’ll do my best to narrate the details with care.

Ah! My Goddess #5(Ah! Under One Roof)

Ah! My Goddess #5(Ah! Under One Roof)

Being with the most beautiful girl in school has it’s pros and cons. Everyone knows
who you are but everyone wants you out of the way. Keiichi misplaces some material
for a class and Belldandy works up a quick spell to go back to their home and retrieve it.
In her absence he sits at a bench and tries to relax a bit but everyone comes by and
asks whether or not Belldandy and him got into a fight or if she left. The two Sempai(s)
even ask but Keiichi lets them know it isn’t true but he used the wrong words or
maybe miscommunication a bit and now they think Belldandy is pregnant so they want to
name the child to come. How can so much happen in just a few moments?

Enter Mishima-chan, she even notes that Belldandy isn’t with him and that it isn’t normal.
He informs her that he misplaced something and Belldandy went home to retrieve it. Keiichi
does not choose his words too carefully and lets on that he lives with Belldandy. Mishima
is in shock, and she has always considered Keiichi romantically inept. Belldandy must be at
the root of it. Morisato blurts it out that he and Belldandy don’t have “that” type of a
relationship. He goes on to say that he himself doesn’t quite understand the relationship.
Mishima-chan is a bit disappointed now. She tells Keiichi if that’s how it is then having
a girlfriend will be a distant dream and that he should atleast tell her how he feels.
Keiichi now is on a mission, to honestly express his feelings for Belldandy.

“It’s not like you’re elementary school students.” Mishima Sayoko

Belldandy brings back the class materials for Keiichi and now he is nervous and flustered.
They both attend the same class, but while the teacher discusses engine parts Keiichi is
focused on her and trying to pull himself together. Belldandy pulls on him and he reflects
on Mishima’s words and he decides to confess and let the chips fall wherever chips fall. =)
The teacher asks if he understands and he stands up and yells “Suki{ski}” meaning liking,
fondness, or love. The teacher replies with a curiosity, “Do you like cylinder heads that
much?”. Keiichi is totally humiliated replies with a heavy heart, “yes.”

“…I want to see that smile forever.” Morisato Keiichi

At home he shuts himself off in the room to think a while. He knows that he really likes
her but is very concerned about the contract and if it is even possible for her to feel anything
for him. He daydreams a bit about what could happen. Rejection or Acceptance, regardless of
what happens he loves her and must know the truth. He digs around in his room for one of
those relationship books and he finds a few things he could do. He scrounges around the
temple for candles to set the mood. The Sempai(s) had left behind some romantic music
when they dropped off his belongings from the dorm. Keiichi is apprehensive and Belldandy
notices that he is acting strange.

Belldandy fixes dinner for the two and he eats with her while he hatches his plot to win
her heart. First, he puts on the tape and sets the mood with some affectionate music. She is
starting to hum to the music and all is going well. He leads her outside to the candles that
he set to make a path of love. She loves that as well but there’s a problem. Keiichi is panicking
and acting feverishly. You can see the sweat pour from him as he tries his very best to confess
to her. He tells her that he needs to make something clear as he holds her hand. She notices that
his heart rate, temperature and blood pressure is raging up near dangerous levels. She pays no
attention what he is saying because she is worried so she levitates him quickly and moves him
to another room to rest. She holds him tightly and carries him to the room and begins to heal
him.

Keiichi pays no attention to his problems at the moment and tries to talk to her. She asks him
to relax but he fights with her a bit to have his say. Right before he collapses he confesses to
her, “I, not apart of the contract or anything, want you to go out with me as a woman as I am
a man.” He passes out from sheer exhaustion and she has a moment to reflect on his words.
She admits that she came only for him, and that she wasn’t lying about her feelings and that
she only wants him to be happy. That is her wish… He never had the chance to hear that from
her but the next day he thought to himself that she will be with him forever and there is no
need to rush things.

Kiba’s thoughts:

Gomen nasai, sorry about my late posting but I’ve recently gotten addicted to J-Drama’s
and Japanese variety shows :). I had to pull myself away just to write this. Anyways..

Ah! What a wonderful episode. All of us have been in the same situation but none of us have
ever dated a Goddess(I’ve had a couple that were close ;). Everyone wants to define their relationships. As Mishima said it was easier back in elementary school. You’d make one of
those box notes, mark yes here, no here and maybe here. The innocence of the main character and of Belldandy is what keeps me coming back to it. Storytelling these days just isn’t this
good. I may be wrong but everything I write is of course my most humble opinion.

Ah! My Goddess #4(Ah! The Queen and the Goddess)

Ah! My Goddess #4(Ah! The Queen and the Goddess)

At their resident the couple begin their new life. Keiichi wakes up to breakfast
made by Belldandy. Keiichi still can’t believe that he and Belldandy live together.
As he devourers the food with delight the clock strikes 8:30. He has to attend a
lecture. Belldandy inquires about where he’s going and with the cutest face asks to
come along. He has no power to resist her and she decided to keep him company.
In comes the Queen, Sayoko Mishima who holds all the men’s interest at the college.
Her father is the president of a large corporation, and she’s beautiful as well.
The problem is that she is arrogant and her ego is so inflated that there’s barely
enough room for anyone else at the college, until now!

“How interesting. Trying to compete against me eh?” -Sayoko Mishima

Belldandy and Keiichi arrive at the school and immediately all the men drop Sayoko
like a hot rock and become instantly infatuated with Belldandy. Everyone at the school
cannot understand why she is with Keiichi. Keiichi’s sempai’s even have a thing for
her and try to get him out of the way. He boldly asks for her number and address and
uses a pretty flimsy excuse by saying he needs to know where Keiichi lives so he can
send his belongings there. The rest of the crowd then finds out that they are living
together and make rude comments about how dull Keiichi is and that her parents would
weep. Belldandy hasn’t been on earth for too long so she doesn’t quite understand but
that’s just fine with Keiichi.

The two sempai’s try to take Belldandy on a tour of the school and sends Keiichi away.
They didn’t count on the “coercive force” to kick in when someone tries to separate them.
A flying soccer ball comes out of nowhere and leaves a significant impression on the
forehead of the sempai. The Queen aka Sayoko has it in her mind to crush the upstart
Belldandy by embarrassing her infront of everyone. She tries a series of different ways
but they all fail. So she gives up on that idea and goes after Keiichi who she rejected
previously. She thinks that if she seduces him then Belldandy will be hurt and humiliated.
The coercive force will not allow such a thing to happen, at every attempt she is foiled.
Eventually she confronts Belldandy and Belldandy lets it slip that she is a Goddess.

“If you’re a Goddess, then I’m a Queen” -Sayoko Mishima
“A Queen? From which country?” -Belldandy

Sayoko lets Belldandy know that she will take “that bum” meaning Keiichi and make her pay.
She means business now, so she stops the couple and offers Keiichi a ride. Keiichi is
reluctant. Belldandy informs him that the coercive force will stop all attempts at dividing
the couple. She really puts on the charm trying to seduce Keiichi, all the pressure seems
to be really putting him in a bad spot. She tries to take him to a beach to watch the sunset.
Some roads have detours, some roads are blocked and some are obstructed by geese
and baby geese.

It is futile, the sun has set and Keiichi wants to go home. A last ditch effort is made
and she looks deep in his eyes and asks if he loves her. Keiichi is beginning to break
down because originally he had a crush on her. The coercive force kicks in with a vengeance
and a large sign comes off the hinges. Belldandy feels the strong force and attempts to come
to the aid of Keiichi. Just as the sign begins to fall on the two Keiichi lets her know
that she already rejected him and he knows that she is only fooling around. A truck drives
by Keiichi and Sayoko in the car and stops the sign from crushing them. Keiichi saves them both.

Sayoko is at her home and thinks about how Keiichi still smiles although he got rejected and
she tried to use him for her personal vengeance against Belldandy. The doorbell rings and it’s
Belldandy and Keiichi who made too much food for dinner and brought her some. She invites
them in but she doesn’t know that the automotive sempai’s are also there to sample Belldandy’s cooking. Everything ends well, and Sayoko now has some feeling in her heart for Keiichi.

Kiba’s thoughts:
Sayoko had some obvious problems, but things will be a bit different from now on.
She got taken down a couple notches but it was a good thing. I admire Keiichi-san, it’s one
thing to be rejected by someone but it’s another for that same person to act like they like
you so they can make themselves look good. He took it like a man, and after all that still treat
her like a friend. He is well deserving of a reward named Belldandy.
Where’s mine? I been good?! =P

Ah! My Goddess #3(Ah! Apprenticeship, My Home, and a Goddess)

Ah! My Goddess #3(Ah! Apprenticeship, My Home, and a Goddess)
“I guess the world is a difficult place if you don’t have money.” -Belldandy

As the episode begins Keiichi and Belldandy aren’t able to sleep so they begin to count sheep.
There is still a big of tension between the two due to things happening so quickly. Keiichi
has always been inept around women, and Belldandy is very positive in her thinking but has a
case of the butterflies. The day begins and Keiichi-san is concerned about finances and where
they will live. They look around for houses and apartments but with his budget it is impossible.
Belldandy wants to aid Keiichi so she initiates a charm to provide the wanderer what he needs.

It’s pretty handy to have a Goddess as your girlfriend. Belldandy finishes the incantation and
not a second after the little girl that Keiichi helped out finds him and her mother treats them
to lunch as thanks for Keiichi helping her. Keiichi is truly a great human being and while he is
not the luckiest guy in the world his goodness is returned with interest. Hijiri, the little girl
inquires if Belldandy is his bride. Keiichi coughs and spews his soft drink right into Hijiri’s
mom’s face. Belldandy who doesn’t have a covert bone in her body replies that she is not a
bride but a Goddess, and Keiichi lets the soda fly again. Hijiri-chan mentions that she has
never seen such fluttering clothes, and Belldandy asks if they are strange. She looks around
and notices that she stands out. She stands up and using her powers transforms her clothing
right in front of everyone. Keiichi makes a hasty retreat and lets her know that it isn’t safe
to use her powers in the city.

Keiichi and Belldandy begin the search for somewhere to live together. Keiichi is on a very
modest budget and seems to ask for too much on a one hundred and fifty dollar a month
stipend. He is rejected and thrown out of just about every realty company in the city.
Belldandy now understands how difficult it is to live in his world. Belldandy appreciates how
hard he is working to find them a place to stay and she asks the holy spirit if there is a place
for them to live. She uses Keiichi’s bill as the object and the bill is “spirited away” by her power.
Keiichi starts to panic due to the fact the bill is his only money that they have right now
for food. Keiichi and Belldandy chase after it. The bill ends up at a temple in the middle
of the city. The bill is $2,000 yen which is approximately $19.36671 US Dollars. Keiichi finds
the bill on the steps of the temple and tries to retrieve it.

The priest of the temple pummels Keiichi with a wooden pole thinking that thieves have come
to steal the offerings. He awakens with a huge lump on his head. Belldandy had been healing
him while he laid in her lap unconscious. The priest returns his money as an apology for
thrashing him. Keiichi asks if he and Belldandy can stay for that amount and he is willing to do whatever is needed. The monk agrees and guarantees them lodging and food for the night and
the money is for working on the temple. He says smiling, “Working at the temple is fun!”.
Keiichi beings to think that things are working out until the cleric works him like a government mule. Belldandy loves working on the temple and her spirit is cleansed as well as the temple.
The priest notices that she is illuminated while cleaning and does not quite understand. The
govt mule aka Keiichi is patching up the roof and complaining about how tough the priest is
and how much work is required. The roof cracks and he tumbles down, in comes Belldandy
to the rescue using her powers to conform the withered leaves as a cushion although she was
not supposed to use them.

The priest saw all of this and isn’t sure about what the woman is. He thinks that if she is
an evil spirit then she will show it at night. So he begins a stake-out in front of the couple’s
room. Belldandy being the Goddess that she is knows what is in his mind and goes outside.
She calls out and an angelic form comes out called Holy Bell. Belldandy and Holy Bell sing
a beautiful song together and heals the dilapidated temple. The temple that has been eroded
due to time and nature is brought back to it’s former splendor. The monk is in awe of Belldandy
and her “guardian spirit”. He admits that he is no match for her at his current state of enlightenment. To be further developed he goes on a nationwide training pilgrimage and he
asks that they take care of the temple. Things have worked out for the best, due to Belldandy’s
help and the kind-heartedness of Keiichi-san.

Kiba’s thoughts:
As the saying goes, “You reap what you sow”.
“Whatever you sow by your actions come back to you. If you make others happy through
service, charity and kind acts, you sow happiness like a seed; and it will give you the fruit of
happiness.” -Sri Swami Sivananda

That is the premise of this story, and it is a beautiful thought. If you applied it to people
today and looked into their lives would you find the same? Honestly I can’t tell you, but I’d
like to think that it would be. =D

Ah! My Goddess #2 (Ah, Are Believers Saved?)

Ah! My Goddess #2 (Ah, Are Believers Saved?)
“I came down from heaven to grant your wish, Morisato Keiichi-sama.”

Morisato Keiichi is the recipient of Heaven’s blessing due to his kind and caring nature, also because of his perpetual misadventures. Keiichi-san is not really sure if this truly real or if it is a horrible prank by his Sempai’s or Belldandy is trying to indoctrinate him into a cult. Belldandy assures him that she is not trying to deceive him and that she cannot lie no matter how insignificant the lie is. Keiichi-san asks Belldandy if he is handsome and appealing and she replies, “Yes!” Morisato in low self esteem mode is definitely not convinced =).

In a tender moment Belldandy with the empathy of a Goddess understands Keiichi and feels his pain. Keiichi in an introspective moment tells himself that this can’t be true because no women are interested in him at all. Belldandy reads his mind and says that she doesn’t understand why he has no luck with women. Morisato goes on to note exactly why women don’t like him. Belldandy raises his self worth up just a notch by explaining it’s not about your height, or status in life but about person’s character and the love that they show not only to other humans but to the things they own as well.

Keiichi-san asks Belldandy to listen to his wish. In a diminutive voice he asks that Belldandy stay by his side forever. In a look of complete shock and awe the Goddess looks back at him with dismay and confusion. In a flash of light from the diamond shaped symbol on her head the room is shimmering and the objects in it are flying around. Belldandy falls to the ground lifeless and makes a call to the man upstairs and checks to see if the wish is valid. Keiichi-san’s wish is granted!

Belldandy tells Keiichi-san that she will stay by his side forever. Keiichi gives Belldandy another chance to change her mind by saying that he is dirt poor and she may have to get a job. Belldandy is set in her mind that she will stay by his side forever. This is the beginning of some pretty strange thoughts on the part of Morisato, but what red-blooded guy wouldn’t? He forgets that she can read his mind and both of them are blushing and imagining their new life together.

“I’m going to be living under the same roof with a girl?! -Morisato Keiichi”

Just as things are getting to a near state of norm he forgets that there are no women allowed in his dorm. He is also concerned of that his Sempai’s might do if he was caught with her in his apartment. He urges Belldandy to leave before they show up. Belldandy informs him about the “coercive force” that works when a wish is a granted. No one can go against the wish and bad luck will plague the person who tries.

The infamous “coercive force” causes the sempai’s to see Morisato and Belldandy in an “intimate” position. They give the new couple the heave ho and evict them properly. During the eviction the sempai’s gave Morisato a right of passage to manhood and giving him a chance to improve his life and surroundings. No matter where the new couple go or what they do they cannot be separated. The “coercive force” is a god of love as they spend the night together.

“I hope we have wonderful days ahead of us Keiichi-san -Belldandy”

Personally I was touched by the kindness of Belldandy in helping Keiichi to look at himself as a good person that anyone would be happy to have. There aren’t any Belldandy’s in this world my friends =). The sempai’s were a bit harsh and cruel but in retrospect they appreciated him and even helped him to be with Belldandy. Since I haven’t seen the original movie or ova I look forward to the next episode… So get crackin’ guys!
